My Habari migration
I've been meaning to do this for a while, but I finally got the pieces together to move my blog over to Habari, a new and shiny star on the firmament of blog engines. I like the fact that it is coded from scratch, in fully object-oriented PHP5. It looks like these people know what they're doing and have chosen a sane architecture to start with, while keeping security in mind. On top of that Habari has a strong focus on community and stands firmly in the open source tradition.
Another strong point is the possibility to use various webservers and database engines. I initially set up a local installation on my home box, using lighttpd and sqlite. I used that to port over my ‘theme’ to Habari's template engine, and to test some features. On the live site it runs on apache and mysql. Once installed it was very easy to import my WordPress database. I tweaked some of the tags, activated some plugins for rerouting old URLs to new ones, and redirecting my feeds, and it looks like everything went smoothly.
I took the opportunity to improve the look of the comments, added a search box and a second sidebar with resources. Now I just need to keep writing again…
